This page is intended to address the questions you may have for completing the California Department of Insurance's (CDI) Certificate Electronic Request Transaction (CERT) system. If you need additional assistance, please contact the Producer Licensing Bureau at (800) 967-9331.
1. How will I know if I need to request a certificate of license status?
If you are a California resident licensee and intend to apply for, or renew, a non-resident license in another state, you will need to check with that state's insurance department to determine if a certificate of license status is required.
2. What do I do if I am a non-resident licensee?
If you are a non-resident licensee, there is no need to request a certificate of license status from California. The certificate of license status can be obtained by contacting your resident state's insurance department.
3. May I use the CERT system if my license has expired?
No. If your license has expired, you must first reactivate your license. For information on how to renew your license, you may click on the following link: renewal procedures.
4. What are the service fees for using the CERT system?
The service fees are in addition to your certificate(s) of license status fees and are assessed by the third party vendor, Sircon Corporation's Web site, that processes your request. The service fees are the property of Sircon Corporation and will vary according to the quantity of certificates requested. However, at this time the service fee for requesting one (1) certificate is $5.60 per certification. These fees exclude credit card fees which will vary depending on the total transaction amount.
5. May I use any credit card to pay my fees when using CERT?
You may use either VISA or MasterCard when paying for your certificate(s) of license status online.
6. May I also change my address when I request my certificate of license status online?
No. However, while completing the certificate(s) of license status Web pages, the CERT system will give you the option to specify the address to which certificate(s) will be mailed.
7. What if I have questions are problems printing the requested certification?
Please call Sircon Corporation's support at (517) 381-3860 for assistance. The CDI cannot assist you with the printing problems you may experience with the Sircon Corporation's service.
