Multistate Insurance Diversity Survey
The Multistate Insurance Diversity Survey (MIDS) Initiative was established to understand the state of supplier and governing board diversity amongst the nation's now $1.84 trillion insurance industry. Through transparency, these efforts aim to encourage economic opportunities and increased procurement from the nation's diverse suppliers. MIDS originates from California's Insurance Diversity Initiative, which was established in 2011 with the same goals. MIDS continues to build on this progress by looking at diversity issues across the nation's insurance industry. Experience indicates that increasing procurement opportunities for diverse suppliers has helped insurers reduce costs by obtaining more competition for procurement opportunities. Research also shows that firms with greater governing board diversity perform better financially.
All insurance companies with written national premiums of $300 million or more and licensed in one of the partner states; and/or all insurance companies with written California premiums of $100 million or more; and/or a partner state has requested their licensee to participate, are notified to submit a report with updated or new data.
To view surveys please visit the Multistate Insurance Diversity Portal. The portal allows public access to all information gathered from the submitted surveys with search options to pull reports based on specified criteria. You may also view the presentation for the 2017 MIDS results.
