Policy Regulation and Approval Bureau I

The Policy Regulation and Approval Bureau I (PRAB I) reviews life and disability insurance policy form filings that are subject to prior approval under the California Insurance Code. These filings include policy forms for non-health disability insurance (including accident, accidental death and dismemberment, disability income, long-term care, disability supplemental to life insurance, group disability, blanket insurance, and the disability component of travel and tuition reimbursement insurance), group life insurance, variable life insurance, variable annuities, modified guaranteed annuities, guaranteed separate account products (including guaranteed investment contracts and synthetic guaranteed investment contracts), credit insurance, and certain administrative forms, such as insurer name change forms. PRAB I also reviews advertising for long-term care insurance (both standalone and hybrid life-long-term care products), and chronic illness accelerated death benefits defined in Insurance Code section 10295.

In addition, PRAB I provides legal counsel to the Insurance Commissioner and works on legislation and regulations in its areas of expertise.

Policy Regulation and Approval Bureau II

The Policy Regulation and Approval Bureau II (PRAB II) reviews health insurance policy form filings that are subject to prior approval under the California Insurance Code. These filings include policy forms for individual, small group, and large group major medical, specialized health insurance (dental, vision, behavioral health, etc.), Medicare Supplement, Student Blanket Health, and health-related stop-loss coverage.  PRAB II also receives and reviews health insurer reporting and advertising related to these coverages, such as insurer health provider networks, prescription drug formularies, health insurer policies and procedures, and Medicare Supplement advertisements.

PRAB II receives and reviews Vehicle Service Contracts and Motor Club Service Contracts.

In addition, PRAB II provides legal counsel to the Insurance Commissioner and works on legislation and regulations in its areas of expertise.
