Advisory - Officials gather in Studio City to launch earthquake retrofit program offering $6 million for high-risk neighborhoods
Now more Californians can receive up to $3,000 toward a seismic retrofit as Earthquake Brace + Bolt program expands to more California cities
WHO: Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) is expanding to more cities in 2018, offering grants for seismic retrofits to even more homeowners this year. A state-approved program, EBB offers up to $3,000 for a code-compliant retrofit to help California homeowners in high-risk areas protect their families and reduce earthquake damage. Homeowners can register online for grants starting today. Launch event participants include:
- Homeowners–recently completed EBB retrofit
- California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones
- Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian
- Christina Curry, Cal OES Deputy Director of Planning, Preparedness and Prevention
- California Earthquake Authority CEO Glenn Pomeroy
- EBB Executive Director Janiele Maffei
WHAT: EBB Launch Event & Retrofit Home Tour
WHERE: EBB Retrofit Home
12716 Kling Street
Studio City, CA 91604
WHEN: Tuesday, January 23 at 11 a.m.
WHY: In a strong earthquake, the crawl space is vulnerable to collapse, causing the home to slide or topple off its foundation. A seismic retrofit strengthens an older house by bolting it to its foundation and adding plywood to brace the cripple walls in the crawl space. Homeowner registration is only open through February 23. For more about what type of homes are eligible, visit: www.EarthquakeBraceBolt.com.
