Statement of Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara on the submission of Assemblymember Rob Bonta as California Attorney General

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara issued the following statement about Governor Gavin Newsom’s submission of Assemblymember Rob Bonta’s nomination for Attorney General to the California Legislature:

“Assemblymember Bonta has been my partner in protecting consumers and immigrant families from abuse by for-profit prisons and the predatory bail industry. With him as Attorney General, we will continue to work together to increase access to affordable health care, combat climate change, and address the racial divides in our society, among other major priorities. Naming the first Filipino American to serve as our state’s top law enforcement leader sends a powerful message to every Californian, especially those in our Asian American and Pacific Islander populations who have experienced the rise in hatred and intolerance, that we must stand together to reverse long-standing discrimination and protect our communities from hate crimes in our country and state. I urge the California Legislature to move swiftly to confirm Assemblymember Bonta as our next Attorney General.”
