SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara issued the following statement on Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of the State address focusing on housing and homelessness in California:
“I strongly support Governor Newsom putting housing and homelessness at the top of the agenda and will do what I can to help him achieve this important goal with the Legislature. As the state tackles increasing its housing stock, we have to also protect people from losing their existing homes to wildfire or to insurance non-renewal that is unraveling the fabric of many communities. We all must renew our approach to home-hardening to bring down wildfire risk that threatens home and real estate markets — and that includes the ability to obtain and renew your insurance if you do.”
