License Information
Follow the steps noted below to schedule your license examination and complete an application online:
Step 1 – Study the Limited Lines Automobile Insurance Agent License Examination Objectives and the 12 Hours of Study on Ethics and California Insurance Code
The Limited Lines Automobile Insurance Agent license requires 12 hours of Study on Ethics and the California Insurance Code to be completed before this license can be issued (California Insurance Code section 1749(a)(1)). The Department encourages license applicants to also study the Limited Lines Automobile License Examination Objectives.
The 12 Hours of Study on Ethics and the California Insurance Code is only required to be taken once (California Insurance Code section 1749(a)(1)); therefore, applicants applying for more than one license type do not need to repeat the required hours of Ethics and California Insurance Code.
Step 2 - Schedule and take license examination
PSI Services LLC (PSI) provides license examination services for the California Department of Insurance (Department). Instructions for scheduling examinations can be found at PSI's Examination Scheduling Service. Individuals may schedule their examinations with PSI either online or by telephone at (833) 518-7456.
Step 3 - License Application
After passing the license examination, go to www.Sircon.com/California and submit an electronic license application. If documents are required, please upload the background and other required documents in the Sircon application at www.Sircon.com/California by using the application status link and the paperclip function. If the application was submitted through NIPR, then please upload the background and other required documents using the National Insurance Producer Registry’s Attachments Warehouse. Alternatively, applicants may submit their background and other documents via U.S. Mail to the following address:

Step 4 - Fingerprinting
All unlicensed applicants are required to submit fingerprint impressions. If you are a new license applicant, you must submit your fingerprints after filing your insurance license application with the Department, or soon after, to ensure the Department receives your fingerprint results promptly from the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Step 5 - Check License Application Status Service
After 10 days from submitting the license application, the applicants can check the status of their license applications by going to the Department’s Check License Application Status Services (CLASS). Please have your business address zip code from your license application to be able to retrieve your application record using CLASS.
