Department now offering Spanish language exams for insurance agent licenses
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones today announced that the California Department of Insurance (CDI) is now offering four of its insurance agent license exams in Spanish. The following four exams will be offered in Spanish: life; accident/health; combination life and accident/health; and life-limited to the sale of funeral and burial expenses.

"These new Spanish language exams will now allow Spanish speakers a greater opportunity to obtain their insurance agent license," said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. "The department is committed to implementing these new exams and urges licensee applicants to take advantage of this new service."

AB 1899, signed into law and effective January 1, 2017, amended Section 1677(b) of the California Insurance Code and now requires the CDI to offer life and accident/health agent license examinations in Spanish from January 1, 2018 to January 1, 2024. The department is implementing the exams ahead of schedule to best serve interested licensee applicants.

The Spanish language versions of the exam materials, also known as educational objectives, are available on the department's website and detail the subject matter that is covered on the exams. These materials allow license applicants to view how specific insurance terms will be translated and used in actual exam questions.

Earlier this year, Jones also announced the launch of an online agent language locator service created to make it easier for consumers to find insurance agents and brokers in their area who speak their chosen language. The service is also available for consumers searching for public adjusters and bail agents. The easy-to-use tool gives consumers access to information from over 11,000 agents and brokers in California allowing them to search for a nearby agent or broker who speaks the same language they do.
