Insurance Diversity Program (IDP)

  • Welcome

The Insurance Diversity Program works to advance supplier and governing board diversity within California’s $400 billion insurance industry.

As part of the first-ever Office of Insurance Diversity and Innovation (OIDI) created by Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara in 2024, the nationally-recognized Insurance Diversity Program, advances supplier and board diversity across California’s $400 billion insurance industry for women, LGBTQ+ people, veterans, disabled veterans, people with disabilities, and people from historically underrepresented communities.

The Diversity Program leads efforts to increase procurement opportunities for diverse businesses and strengthen diversity within insurance governing boards. The Diversity Program administers the California Insurance Diversity Survey (CAIDS) pursuant to California Insurance Code § 927 et seq., requiring insurance companies with $75 million or more in California direct written premiums to report on board and supplier diversity. This data drives transparency, accountability, and long-term progress across the industry.

The Insurance Diversity Program also spearheads public policy, leads data-driven research, builds strategic partnerships through community engagement initiatives such as the annual Insurance Diversity Summit and the California Supplier Diversity Symposium. The Insurance Diversity Task Force, appointed by the Commissioner, serves as an advisory body to the program—providing recommendations that inform the Diversity Program's strategic goals. Together, these efforts expand economic opportunity and strengthen a more inclusive and resilient insurance marketplace.
