Insurance Commissioner and FEMA discuss protection from increased flood risks after fires
The Thomas Fire and other large wildfires can significantly increase flood risks over months or years, as evident from the flooding, mudflows and debris flows that affected Santa Barbara County earlier this month. Roy Wright, FEMA Deputy Associate Administrator for Insurance and Mitigation, California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, and Tom Fayram, Deputy Director, Santa Barbara County Public Works Department, will participate in flood insurance claim reviews and be available to discuss how southern California residents can protect themselves financially from flooding after fires.
