Department of Insurance employee receives Governor’s Medal of Valor Award for first time

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Detective Aivaras Petraitis, will be the first detective, and department employee, to receive the Governor's State Employee Medal of Valor Award. The Governor's Medal of Valor Award is the highest honor California bestows on its public servants. Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones will be presenting the Special Act Award to Detective Petraitis for his extraordinary act of heroism when he risked his own life saving a mother and her son from drowning in the ocean.
