California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara pays tribute to late Senator Dianne Feinstein: A trailblazing legacy that will continue to inspire

LOS ANGELES – California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara today released the following statement regarding the death of US Senator Dianne Feinstein at age 90:

“Today, we mourn the loss of a towering figure in American politics, Senator Dianne Feinstein. Her passing at the age of 90 marks the end of a remarkable career that spanned over five decades and left an indelible mark on our state, our nation and our world.

“Senator Feinstein was a trailblazer in every sense. She shattered glass ceilings, becoming the first woman to hold the title of President of San Francisco's board of supervisors and later, the first woman to serve as mayor of San Francisco. Her journey paved the way for countless people in politics.

“In the U.S. Senate, she achieved historic milestones. Throughout her tenure, Senator Feinstein championed critical causes, from gun control to environmental conservation and the fight against violence against women.

“Her legislative legacy includes the landmark 1994 assault weapons ban, protecting millions of acres of California's natural beauty, and advocating for transparency through the release of a comprehensive report on the CIA's torture practices.

“Senator Feinstein's commitment to justice and equity was unwavering. Her work has left an enduring impact on our nation, making it safer, more equitable, and environmentally sustainable.

“As we remember Senator Feinstein's remarkable career, our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations of leaders who seek to make a positive difference in the world.

“May she rest in peace.”
