Commissioner Lara supports Governor Newsom’s call for creative approaches to reduce wildfire risk to our communities

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara released this statement in response to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of the State address:
“I applaud Governor Newsom’s call for a comprehensive plan within 60 days that brings justice to wildfire survivors and protection for all Californians from the risks of wildfire. As part of the Governor’s strike team, I will engage the insurance industry in creative approaches. In the face of extreme wildfires, we need to be open to new products and models that reduce risk to our communities and budgets. Making California resilient to climate-driven disasters will have a positive impact on the availability and affordability of insurance.”

Led by Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, the California Department of Insurance is the consumer protection agency for the nation's largest insurance marketplace and safeguards all of the state’s consumers by fairly regulating the insurance industry.
