About the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) System

It is an advanced telephone system which combines the best attributes of technology and human resources to provide complete customer service. Our IVR System allows you to obtain information at your convenience, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some of the specific features you may find useful are:

  • Audio text which, with the use of a touch-tone phone, directs your call to the area of interest to you;
  • Voicemail for ordering Licensing forms or lists of schools and providers for prelicensing/continuing education courses;
  • The ability to obtain license expiration dates; and,
  • Explanation of licensing requirements at the touch of a button.

Upon accessing the IVR system, you will be able to direct your questions to one of four choices (touch tone numbers are blue): IVR Navigation Guide.

Here are a few shortcuts to the most frequently accessed areas:

  • To Reach a Technician:
    At the end of your menu selection, you may press 0 to speak to a technician. Your call will be answered in the order received. Technicians are available 7:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • For Continuing Education Hours:
    Press 2 for education, press 2 to obtain the numbers of completed hours on record for the licensee. Have the license number ready.
  • For Examination Information:  If you have examination scheduling questions, please call PSI at (877) 392-6422 to speak with a Consumer Service Representative Monday through Friday between 4:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Pacific Time. Press 1 for Insurance Licensing, Have the Social Security Number of applicant ready.
  • Order Forms, Education Provider Lists and/or Course Lists:
    Press 3 for forms, press 1 to leave your order. Please have quantity and type of forms needed, if ordering education lists provide the type of list (Life-Only, Accident and Health, Property and Casualty, Bail, Long Term Care), and be sure to include your complete address.
  • Press 1 for Insurance Licensing company appointments. Have the license number of the agent ready.

License Examination Locations and Information

CDI License Examination Locations:

Examinations are administered at 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

License Examination Information:

  • Rescheduling Examinations:
    To change a scheduled examination date, a re-examination fee is required.
  • Examination Admittance:
    You will not be admitted to the examination without one of the following types of identification: Valid drivers license, California Identification Card, Passport, or Military Identification. Waiting for examinees in the lobby area is not allowed during examinations.
  • Examination Scheduling Questions:
    If you have examination scheduling questions, please call PSI at (877) 392-6422 to speak with a Consumer Service Representative Monday through Friday between 4:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Pacific Time. For all other license examination concerns, please call the CDI's Producer Licensing Bureau's Examination Section at (916) 492-3570.
  • Fingerprint Requirements:
    You may schedule your fingerprint impressions using CDI's contracted fingerprint vendor, Accurate Biometrics at (866) 361-9944 to find a fingerprint location near you to have your fingerprints taken. When you go to have your fingerprint impressions made, please bring with you a completed Live Scan Request, form LIC 442-39A. Please make check payable to Accurate Biometrics in the amount of $58.30. The applicant may also pay by money order, cashier's check, personal check or VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card. Cash will not be accepted.

At PSI's test centers, all applicants must appear at the designated exam site with a check in the amount of $68.95. Please make the money order, cashier's check, company check payable to PSI. Personal check and cash will not be accepted at PSI's test centers. PSI also accepts VISA and MasterCard.

  • Business Entity Licensing Inquiries
    If you have questions concerning your Business Entity Application, please call (916) 492-3069. You may leave a voice mail message that details your concerns. Your voice mail message will be answered within two business days.
  • Education Course Application and Renewal Inquiries
    If you have questions on education course applications or renewals, please call (916) 492-3064. You may leave a voice mail message that details your concerns. Your voice mail message will be answered within two business days.
  • E-mail Inquiries
    E-mail inquiries are answered in the order received. Whether e-mailing your inquiry, please provide as much detail as possible and include your phone number to enable us to better serve you.
