Resident - Provider Continuing Education Courses, Outlines and Materials. The following links providing information on the continuing education courses, outlines, and training material are for California resident licensees. This material is available in Adobe's Portable Document Format (pdf)*. To view and complete these pdf forms on your browser you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. Continuing Education Courses: California resident licensees must meet the continuing education requirements stated in California Insurance Code (CIC) Section 1749. This link provides the education provider and the licensee with a list of the available education courses, Education Provider and Course Search

Long-Term Care Outline [in pdf format*]: For California resident accident and health agents who sell long term care, CIC Section 10234.93 (4) states, in part, that this requirement shall be part of, and not in addition to, the California resident licensee's continuing education requirements in CIC Section 1749.3 for those accident and health agents who sell long term care. The Mandatory Eight-Hour Long Term Care Outline noted below lists the topics that must be addressed as part of all eight-hour long term care (LTC) insurance courses.

Annuity Training Course Outlines [in pdf format*]: For California resident life-only agents who sell annuities, CIC Section 1749.8 (b) states, in part, that this requirement shall be part of, and not in addition to, the California resident licensee's continuing education requirements of CIC Section 1749.3 for those life-only agents who sell annuity products.

Ethics Training Guidelines: Section 2188 et seq. of the California Code of Regulations are currently being amended. Part of the proposed changes will be the requirement that Life-Only Agents, Accident and Health Agents, Property Broker-Agents, Casualty Broker-Agents complete three (3) hours of ethics training during their two-year license term. The training will be part of, not in addition to, the California resident agent's current continuing education requirement.

Workers' Compensation: On or before July 1, all insurers are to certify annually to the Commissioner that they have met the minimum standards of training and/or experience stated in the Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster Regulations for all claims adjusters and medical bill reviewers.

24-Hour Care Coverage Continuing Education

Pursuant to CIC Section 1749.33(d), any accident and health agent who wishes to sell 24-hour care coverage, as defined in Section 1749.02, shall complete a course, program of instruction, or seminar of an approved continuing education provider on workers' compensation and general principles of employer liability, which shall be completed by examination approved by the Commissioner as part of the continuing education course, program of instruction, or seminar prior to selling this coverage. The required number of instruction hours shall be equal to but no greater than that required by the curriculum board for the prelicensing requirements of a property broker-agent and casualty broker-agent on these subjects. For resident licensees, this requirement shall count toward the licensee's continuing education requirement, but may still result in completing more than the minimum number of continuing education hours set forth in this section. Nothing in this section shall be deemed to allow an accident and health agent to satisfy the obligations set forth in this section by other than a proctored examination administered or approved by the California Department of Insurance.

The continuing education requirement is a four-hour course and will include the information on the following link: 24-hour care coverage.


Homeowners' Insurance Valuation: CIC Section 1749.85(a) requires Property Broker-Agents, Casualty Broker-Agents and Personal Lines Broker-Agents to complete training in the proper methods of estimating the replacement value of structures. This requirement shall be part of, and not in addition to, the California resident licensee's continuing education requirement.
