Health Plan Report Card

The quality of our health care is one of the most important, and least understood aspects of health insurance. In the last two decades regulators, insurers, doctors and others have found ways to monitor and assess key indicators of a number of best practices that can help all of us compare the performance of medical care providers and insurers. This information is compiled by the State of California Office of the Patient Advocate and called the Health Plan Report Card.

This Report Card allows consumers to compare HMOs and PPOs in a number of key areas such as Diabetes Care, Treating Children, Heart Care and others. Each reporting insurer has been given an overall grade, and consumers can find the components of those grades, down to the individual scores for dozens of particular best practices. It also provides results of important consumer satisfaction surveys.
