Testing for Insurance Examiner is temporarily closed. Testing is anticipated to be re-opened in May 2014.
As a part of the Financial Surveillance Branch team, Insurance Examiners conduct financial examinations and/or financial analysis of insurance companies to determine their fiscal condition and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Eligibility for employment, as an Insurance Examiner, with the California Department of Insurance may be established by taking and passing the Insurance Examiner examination on the Internet. You must meet the minimum qualifications of the Insurance Examiner classification to take the examination.
Meeting the minimum qualifications to compete in the Insurance Examiner examination DOES NOT assure placement on the eligible list. All candidates will be required to complete a Training and Experience (T&E) Evaluation. The information on the T&E Evaluation will be competitively assessed based on pre-determined rating criteria. In order to obtain a position on the eligible list, a minimum rating of 70% must be attained on the T&E Evaluation.
When taking the Insurance Examiner examination, read each question carefully and answer as accurately as possible. After completing the exam your answers will be processed. All information you provide will be subject to verification.
If you pass you will be added to the employment list for the California Department of Insurance. Your eligibility will be for 12 months and you may not retake the exam for six months. If you do not pass the exam, you must wait at least six months from the date of disqualification before re-applying.
