LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Clara Madrid, 60, was arrested by Department of Insurance detectives yesterday for insurance fraud and attempted perjury. Madrid filed a workers' compensation claim for an alleged head injury while on the job, and made false statements and lied while working to settle the claim.

In March 2012 Madrid resigned from her employment as a housekeeper. Five days later Madrid filed a claim for a head injury she allegedly received on the job in November 2011. Madrid filed additional claims for an injury on her left hand and fingers and claimed a cumulative trauma injury from 2010 to 2012. A subpoena of her records revealed she had similar workers' compensation claims to the same parts of her body on two prior occasions. Those claims were settled and she received cash for the claims, yet Madrid denied in her deposition that she had any prior workers' compensation claims or injuries while working for other employers.

This case is being prosecuted by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
