SAN DIEGO, Calif. -Adam St. Clair, 31, and Roxzyanna St. Clair, 30, were arrested on three felony counts of insurance fraud after confessing to their insurer that they fraudulently reported their 2001 Hyundai XG 300 stolen in San Diego, when it was actually stolen in Tijuana, Mexico.

"The St. Clair's actions are a stark reminder for consumers to be honest when submitting an insurance claim," said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. "If you drive your vehicle to Mexico have a conversation with your insurance agent to know your coverage options."

The vehicle theft occurred while the couple was visiting a restaurant owned by Roxzyanna's parents. Roxzyanna was frequently in Mexico to visit her family, yet she did not change her auto insurance to ensure sufficient coverage. Detectives determined the couple knowingly lied about where the theft happened, because their insurance policy would not cover any losses or theft that occurred across the border.

This case is being prosecuted by the San Diego District Attorney's Office with bail set at $25,000 each.
