Jones promises fight to protect women’s right to access contraceptives
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones issued the following statement after President Trump announced a ruling that allows employers to opt out of providing free birth control to millions of Americans:

"Women have a fundamental right to control their reproductive lives. Access to contraceptives, which are used by 99 percent of women at some point in their lives, is a critical right that I will fight to protect. The Trump Administration has no business putting employers in the position of preventing women from accessing contraceptives. Trump's regulations conflict with California law. We will fight for the rights of California women and to protect California's laws.

President Trump's discriminatory policy violates a woman's right to privacy, will result in unintended pregnancies, and increased costs to women for health care. California law requires that health insurance policies cover contraceptives. I will stand up for women's reproductive rights and continue to enforce our state law.

Millions of women and men marched on the day after Trump's inauguration to send a message that we won't stand for policies like these. It's not too long ago that women were asked routinely in job interviews if they used contraceptives and when they planned to have children – we will not go back to those days and will fight President Trump in court to protect women's reproductive rights."
