News: 2011 Press Release
Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones has been named one of Daily Journal's Top 100 Lawyers of 2011. Commissioner Jones is the only elected official who made it on the list for 2011.
"It's very humbling to be included on a list of the State's 100 top lawyers and I would like to thank the Daily Journal for this recognition. I am very fortunate to have the chance to lead and work with the talented and dedicated lawyers of the California Department of Insurance as we fulfill our consumer protection mission." Commissioner Jones said. "I would also like to congratulate all of this year's honorees on receiving this recognition for their hard work and commitment to the highest ideals of the legal profession."
Among notable goals highlighted in the Daily Journal, "Jones has summed up his plans for his new role with one word: action." The Journal noted that in his first term as Insurance Commissioner his office has counted hundreds of Insurance fraud-related arrests; sponsored several key pieces of legislation, several of which have been signed by the Governor; and intervened in two whistle-blower lawsuits against Insurers, the larger of the two, Bristol Myers-Squibb is believed to be one of the largest health insurance fraud cases pursued by a State agency. As Jones said, his involvement in the two cases illustrates his commitment to rooting out Insurance fraud in the medical industry.
Commissioner Jones was selected by the Daily Journal based on the strength of efforts to protect consumers through new regulations, enforcement actions, and civil lawsuits initiated since he was sworn into office nine months ago.
This year the Journal reviewed roughly 800 lawyers during its selection process. The Journal solicited nominations from members in the legal community and from its own staff writers, with seven editors selecting the final list. To qualify for the Top 100 an attorney must be based in California. A profile of this year's honorees was published in a special edition of the paper printed on September 21.
