Insurance Commissioner Jones Responds After AB 52 Senate Hearing
News: 2011 Press Release
Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones issued the following statement after yesterday's hearing on AB 52 (Feuer) by the Senate Health Committee, which has scheduled a vote for next Wednesday, July 6, on the critical health insurance rate regulation bill:
"Make no mistake about it, millions of Californians have a stake in this vital legislation and they will be watching closely next week as this committee places its votes. So many Californians have been strong-armed into excessive health insurance rate increases over the last several years, and we have a golden opportunity before us to put an end to this abhorrent and blatantly unfair practice. AB 52 is more than rate regulation. It represents hope for hard-working Californians and their families that they can not only sign up for health care, but also afford to keep it. California has long been a trendsetter, nationally, in a host of important public policy areas, but, in this regard, thirty five other states have beaten us to the punch. It is time for us to make the right decision and level the playing field for California's consumers. I strongly urge the members of the Senate Health Committee to join millions of other Californians in saying 'yes' to AB 52."
