SACRAMENTO - Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced today that General Counsel Gary M. Cohen will leave the Department on July 13 to take a position as Deputy General Counsel of Allianz of America and Chief Counsel of Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.

"Gary has provided extraordinary leadership to the Department during the past four years," Commissioner Poizner said. "I appreciate his willingness to stay on board during the transition, and I thank him for his service to the State and wish him luck in his new endeavor."

Commissioner Poizner said the Department will conduct a national search for a new General Counsel, adding, "I intend to search for the most qualified individual possible for this important position." An interim acting General Counsel or replacement will be named upon Cohen's departure.
