RE:     Climate Risk Disclosure Survey for Calendar Year 2011

As announced today the California Department of Insurance (CDI) has joined with New York to require insurers to respond to the Climate Risk Disclosure Survey adopted in 2009 by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).  California and the other two states joining this initiative will require all companies that write in excess of $300 million in direct written premium to respond to the Climate Risk Disclosure Survey.  Completed surveys will be due on May 1, 2012.  Insurers meeting the premium threshold will only be required to file the survey in one of the three states and specific information regarding in which state to file the survey will be forthcoming.

  1. The California Department of Insurance will be requiring licensed insurers writing in excess of $300 million in direct premium written to file the Climate Risk Disclosure Survey for Calendar Year 2011 in either California, Washington State, or New York.   California domestic insurers will file their survey in California.
  2. The Cliimate Risk Disclosure Survey form and instructions for completing the survey are posted on the Website and are the same form and instructions as utilized in 2011.
  3. Information as to where licensed insurers, who are not California domestics, should file their survey will be posted on this website by March 1, 2012.

Please submit your survey responses to the Department by going to our online submission link at OASIS (Online Assistance System for Insurer Submittal).
