Insurance Commissioner issues statement regarding Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Today, California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones made the following statement in response to the Supreme Court decision to uphold nationwide tax subsidies under the Affordable Care Act:
"This is another victory for families across the country whose health insurance coverage was made possible by the Affordable Care Act. Nearly 8.7 million people nationwide, including more than 1.2 million Californians, are finding health insurance more affordable because they are eligible for the premium tax credit."
The California Department of Insurance, established in 1868, is the largest consumer protection agency in California. Insurers collect $289 billion in premiums annually in California. Since 2011 the California Department of Insurance received more than 1,000,000 calls from consumers and helped recover over $469 million in claims and premiums.
