Insurance Commissioner encouraged by Transportation Network Companies increasing insurance coverage
News: 2014 Press Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones today issued this statement following the announcement by Uber and Lyft that both companies have extended their auto insurance coverage to include working drivers who have not yet picked up passengers:
"I appreciate that Uber and Lyft have taken these steps to increase the safety of all Californians by providing better coverage for drivers using their personal vehicles to provide rides for money. From the beginning, I have stressed that it's important for passengers, drivers, pedestrians and third parties to know which insurance will cover their losses in the event of an accident. Many insurance issues remain to be resolved when Californians use their personal home or car for a part-time commercial purpose, and I look forward to working with all interested parties on these important matters."
