Insurance Commissioner Jones Announces Arrest Of Santa Cruz Business Owner For Failing To Report Injury

On April 14, 2011, John Adam Pickart, 42, of Santa Cruz and the owner of Chill Out Cafe was arrested for violating section 550(b)(3) of the Penal Code. An investigation conducted by the CDI Fraud Division found that Pickart failed to disclose the occurrence of an employee's work related injury to his workers' compensation insurance carrier which affected the employee's right to workers' compensation benefits. Pickart was booked into the Santa Cruz County jail on charges of insurance fraud. This case is being prosecuted by the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office. If convicted, Pickart faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
