Parents play a critical role in helping teens develop safe driving habits
A lifetime of safe driving habits begins with good examples set by parents
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - As National Teen Driver Safety Week approaches (October 20-26), Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones is reminding parents to set a good example for teens by turning off their mobile phones, obeying the rules of the road, and being a safe and courteous driver.
"As parents, it's important we remember our role in setting a good example for our children who are just learning the rules of the road," said Commissioner Jones. "When you consider that collisions are still the leading cause of death for teens in California, it is important we do everything in our power to protect them by reinforcing safe and responsible driving habits."
This year's theme, It Takes Two: Shared Expectations for Teens and Parents for Driving serves as an appropriate reminder of the role adults play in setting an example when they hit the road with their teen driver. "I think it's easy to forget that our children watch us closely and often adopt the habits and behaviors we have, including driving, so do the right thing and set a good example," added Jones.
Good driving habits also play an important role in keeping your insurance costs in check, as insurers offer discounts of at least 20 percent, which is a significant discount within your control as a driver.
