Center for Digital Government presents Department of Insurance with award for online portal solutions

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Department of Insurance (CDI) received a 2016 Digital Government Achievement Award (DGAA) from the Center for Digital Government highlighting the department's innovative online consumer, healthcare provider, and licensee portals.
"Since taking office, I have concentrated our efforts on improving services to consumers," said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. "These online portal solutions are a significant development in that effort. This award is an acknowledgment of the team's dedication and ability to meet consumer needs."
The Center for Digital Government recognizes the top county, city, state, and federal government websites in the nation and the broad range of digital accomplishments in government. More than 30 DGAA awards were presented in seven categories this year. CDI's portal solution earned the DGAA in the Government-to-Business category.
Last year the department implemented its online consumer and healthcare provider portals, followed by a rollout of its licensee portal. The new portals provide simple and helpful solutions for California consumers and insurers. Users are now able to submit request for assistance applications while using a desktop or smart device.
Additionally, both the consumer and licensee portal allows users to upload supporting documents directly to their online application, replacing paper-intensive processes and saving time and money. The licensee portal allows two-way communication between the department and its licensees. Thousands of consumers, including healthcare providers have begun using the portal.
