Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones Issued The Following Statement On The Passing of General Vang Pao
News: 2011 Press Release
"I am deeply saddened by the news of General Pao's passing, and I would like to extend my condolences to his family and to the Hmong community. General Pao was a devoted family man, patriot, and fighter for the Hmong people and for the United States, and his death will undoubtedly be felt by all. He dedicated his life to fighting for freedom and to ensuring basic human rights protections for Hmong people living in his homeland of Laos."
During his time in the State Assembly, Commissioner Jones authored Assembly Joint Resolution (AJR) 36 in 2008 which called on the President of the United States and Congress, in part, to take appropriate measures to ensure that the Hmong population in Laos, Thailand and other countries are treated as human beings and recognized them as allies of the United States during the war in Laos. It also calls for an end to the current abuses and human rights violations against the Hmong people in Laos. The Commissioner also introduced House Resolution (HR) 33 on August 4, 2010 which calls upon the Congress of the United States to pass, and the President to sign, HR 5879, which would allow individuals who served in combat support of the United States Armed Services in the Kingdom of Laos from 1961 to 1975 to be interred in national cemeteries in the US.
