Commissioner Poizner Announces Central Valley Insurance Agent Arrested for Stealing from Clients

Insurance Commissioner Poizner today announced the arrest of a Sanger insurance agent and broker for grand theft and embezzlement. Guy Frank Northrop, 57, was arrested on May 19.

"Insurance agents who steal from their clients will not get away with their crimes," said Commissioner Poizner. "If you break the law, we will find you, arrest you and help bring you to justice."

According to CDI investigators, from January 2006 to August 2006, Guy Frank Northrop, an agent for American General Insurance Company, collected at least $4,163.35 from dozens of victims for the purpose of obtaining commercial life insurance. Northrop failed to submit his clients' premium payments to American General Life.

CDI investigators also determined that Northrop had been allegedly evading creditors for several years. The County of Fresno filed the multiple felony count case in February 2010. CDI investigators were employed to track down the suspect, and located Northrop living in a small mobile trailer on a large property that was listed as foreclosed. He was arrested without incident.

Commissioner Poizner oversees sixteen CDI Enforcement Branch regional offices throughout the state. Nearly 2,800 insurance fraud-related arrests have been made by CDI since Commissioner Poizner took office in 2007 - more arrests than have been made during any other three year period, under any previous insurance commissioner.
