SACRAMENTO -- Commissioner Quackenbush today announced that subpoenas will be served to eight insurance companies requiring them to appear at an Investigatory Hearing scheduled next month. The companies are to report on their readiness to provide detailed policyholder information for the Holocaust Era Insurance Registry. The hearings will be held in Los Angeles on December 1, 1999 and in San Francisco on December 2, 1999.

The following companies (in alphabetical order) will be served with subpoenas:

· Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A (U.S. Branch) (Generali)

· American Re-Insurance Company (Munich Re)

· Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company (Allianz)

· Fortis Insurance

· Gerling American Insurance Company (Gerling)

· Peerless Insurance Company (ING)

· Providence Washington Insurance Company (Basler-Lebens)

· Winterthur International American Insurance Company (Winterthur)
